15/08/2017 - Do you really need an excuse to visit us?

Whether you are celebrating something special or just need a few days away, Lakeview provides that private, intimate and exclusive space to do just that.

One of our recent visitors escaped the city and spent four days with us.
“You can feel the tension melt away as soon as you walk through the door,” she said. “I didn’t realise how much I needed to stop and take some time for myself until I’d actually dropped my bags and taken a deep breath of fresh air.”
Some say it’s like a week's worth of relaxation in just a few days but others are keen to get out and stay busy.
“We needed some time out from our hectic lives but we aren’t the type to just sit around,” another recent visitor said.
“We came on the Farmer’s Market weekend and bought lots of local produce, we booked a wine tour, visited as many restaurants as possible and even crammed in a visit to a couple of galleries. It’s all just a short drive away, which is great.”
Nestled in the trees adjacent to the Lake Canobolas Reserve, our beautifully appointed self-contained cabins offer a quiet, secluded, couples retreat only 10 minutes from the heart of Orange. Even though it seems remote, it’s actually close to fantastic wineries and restaurants.
We encourage people visiting to start the day at their own pace. Some are up with the birds and others sleep in until their body decides 'it's now time to move'.
Enjoy the gourmet breakfast hamper provided, full of seasonal local produce, before deciding whether to go for a walk, read a book and go exploring around the region.

No matter what your reason is to book the first time, we’ll give you plenty of excuses to visit again and again!

01/01/2017 - Happy New Year

An exciting year for Lakeview Luxury Cabins

What a year it’s been for us! As well as enjoying the company of hundreds of wonderful guests, we embarked on the beginnings of a new two-bedroom cabin that can be enjoyed by two couples travelling together. This will then allow a couple to enjoy a cabin or a small group of up to four couples to enjoy the three cabins. We look forward to officially opening our new cabin in mid 2017.
We were thrilled to be recognized at both the regional and state tourism awards in 2016. We won the Regional NSW Tourism Award for self-contained accommodation and then attended the NSW Tourism Awards and were awarded a bronze in the same category. The standard across the state is extremely high so we were honored to achieve this recognition.
Orange is continually growing and its’ offering is incredible. We have more brilliant coffee shops, four galleries, a brand new visitor centre and museum, some beautiful new fashion and homeware stores and our restaurants continue to be applauded for their food and service.
We can’t wait to see what else pops up in 2017 and look forward to welcoming returning and brand new guests to our cabins.
Happy New Year, everyone!

26/11/2012 - Passionate about Wine

We are passionate about our local wines and so many of the local vignerons are really passionate about making excellent wines. You can enjoy a complimentary bottle of local wine when you stay at Lakeview Luxury Cabins.

This week we went wine tasting at De Salis winery near Orange.  The De Salis "Lofty Vineyard" is the highest vineyard in the Orange region at 1050m above sea level and is nestled just below Mt Canobolas. Owners, Charlie & Loretta Svenson make some great wines – mainly utilising the wild yeast in the fermentation.

Not only are they passionate about their wines, they also have a fabulous location with spectacular views. For more information about De Salis go to

We recommend making the trip to De Salis wines when you are in Orange.

A review by Peter Bourne in Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine (Apr/May 2012): "Loretta and Charlie Svenson are new to Orange, sort of. Charlie is a research scientist who first made wine in 1999 at the Canoblas Smith winery, continuing to work vintages alongside regional pioneer Murray Smith. The purchase of the Lofty Vineyard along with an enormous packing shed and spectacular views back to Orange turned a hobby into a profession. The newly created cellar door features a balcony to capitalise on the magnificent outlook. The wines are excellent with incredible depth and a special sense of place."

21/11/2012 - Slow Summer 2013

21-28 January 2013 is Slow Summer in Orange. Choose Lakeview for some luxury accommodation while you investigate what is on offer. We are a short walk from Lake Canobolas where A Day at the Beach and the Dragonboat races will be.

A day at the Beach will see Royal Lifesaving alongside Dragonboat Racing and so much more. We encourage the community to meet up with friends in Robertson Park each morning for a Rotary Breaky and free newspaper provided by Central Western Daily.
Our beautiful region offers so much for families which will be showcased during the festival. Whether it is an art exhibition, a family bike ride, trying your hand at croquet – there is something for everyone.

Slow Summer 2013

18/11/2012 - Walking on the Mountain

Mount Canobolas is a State Conservation Area and has a range of interesting trails and bush walks. The summit of the mountain is 1395m above sea level and about 500m higher than Orange and it hosts a range of interesting habitats including heath and subalpine woodland (it regularly receives snow in winter). It is also quite a distinctive local landmark.

Many of the walks on the mountain require a reasonable level of fitness and vary from short (up to 30min) to long (more than 2 hours). At the moment the heath is in flower and are quite attractive near the road and near “The Walls” picnic area. If you aren’t into walking, you can drive to the summit for some spectacular views.

In warmer weather, the mountain walks are delightful early in the day when the air is still cool and fresh. For more information on the mountain and walks visit or

Lakeview Luxury Cabins is a great place to stay in Orange if you are planning on making a visit to the mountain.

The weather was fantastic for the event with clear skies and a cooling breeze.

The dragon boats train each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday on Lake Canobolas ( So, if you come and stay you can take a relaxing walk around the lake and watch the dragon boats go through their paces.

04/11/2012 - Lunch with a View

11/08/2012 - First Snow for 2012

We had our first snowfall for 2012 on the night of Thursday 9 August. Only a light dusting but the cold weather resulted in patches of snow still being on the ground on Friday evening.I went for a walk on Mt Canobolas on Saturday - the snow was thicker and will last longer.

There is another cold front forecast for next Friday - they are forecasting that we could get some more snow.August can be a great time to visit Orange as we have had a combination of winter (including snow) and beautiful spring-like days.

20/05/2012 - Ice & Fire

We’ve had a few big frosts in the last week – if you are coming to Orange, pack some warm clothes. The days have been fantastic – sunny and calm making it feel a lot warmer than the thermometer says.

On Saturday the fiery sunset was magnificent (photo). We are still enjoying the colours of autumn as the last trees change colour around town. Lakeview is a great spot to see the sunset, with the colours reflected in the lake.

26/04/2012 - Enjoy the colours of autumn

After a cool and wet summer, April has been quite dry and mild and there are some fantastic colours in the deciduous trees around the district. It is a great time to visit Orange.

The apple harvest is nearing completion so there is some beautiful fresh fruit available (try a really fresh apple and you’ll experience what apples are meant to taste like). Although FOOD week is over, there are still things happening such as the Orange Apple Festival – May 11 – 13th (Mother’s Day weekend) – for details see or
